Anna Blayer is a witness to History. An historian herself and recently
retired as Director of the Jewish Museum of Rome, she is a descendant of
Sephardic Jews who emigrated to Italy in 1492 following the expulsion of
the Jews from Spain. Her ancestors include many notable Jewish scholars
and Rabbis of the Italian Jewish Community. Their survival under Ghetto
conditions is intimately entwined with the history of the Inquisition. |
|
Anna Blayer brings both her scholarly research and an extraordinary family
history to Secret Files of the Inquisition. |
|
About the Roman Inquisition, she recalls: "My family remained into the ghetto area for 300 very difficult years. Every Sunday, the Jews were obliged to enter in the Church and listen sermon for conversion. Even a young member of my family was kidnapped and forced to baptism". |
