Writer, emeritus professor of Spanish History at the University of Toulouse (France) and historian, Bartolomé Bennassar is a distinguished authority on the History of Spain. The Spanish Inquisition, The History of Spain and his biography of Francisco Franco are among his most widely read books.

Bartolomé Bennassar states that "The Inquisition is the perfect illustration of the drama which threatens human beings each time a liaison appears between the State and the Church."
