| Celia Rabinovitch is a historian, artist and Director and Professor of
the School of Art, University of Manitoba, Canada since 2003. The art database
and for this series was developed under her supervision. Dr. Rabinovitch
also served as story consultant for the medieval, Renaissance, and 19th
century cultural history of the production. Celia Rabinovitch holds a Ph.D.
from McGill University, and an M.F.A. from the University of Wisconsin.
The history of knowledge forms her current area of research focusing on
the history of art and religions. Her book chapters and numerous articles,
appearing in major art journals, explore the struggle between secular and
sacred or occult forces in the history of European and Asian art. |

| Acknowledged as a rich and significant study, (Rain Taxi, 2002) Dr. Rabinovitch’s
book, Surrealism and the Sacred: Power, Eros, and the Occult in Modern Art,
(Westview Press and Harper Icon Editions, 2002) uncovers the historical
trajectory of occult and rejected knowledge from prehistory to the modern
period, with a particular focus on women, aesthetics, and religions. Previously
Program Director for Fine Arts and Graphic Design at University of California
Berkeley, Extension, she has held faculty positions at Syracuse University,
the University of Colorado, California College of Art, the San Francisco
Art Institute, and Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design. Her paintings
have been shown in Canada, the U.S., and Europe. |
